Guided tour of Florence and Michelangelo
Michelangelo was born of a Florentine family, in Florence he trained first in the Ghirlandaio workshop and then at the court of the Magnificent; for the lily city he created his most famous masterpiece, the David—and in Florence in the Basilica of Santa Croce his remains rest in a tomb where Painting, Architecture but above all Sculpture mourn the death of their favorite son. The life of Michelangelo and the history of Florence are intertwined, and with this guided tour you’ll be able to retrace both: the artist was undoubtedly one of the highest interpreters of the great Florentine Renaissance period and lived in Florence in a politically dramatic moment through the passage from the free Municipality to the Medici Lordship. Michelangelo considered himself mainly a sculptor, and with our guide you will discovery some of his greatest marble masterpieces: the guided tour includes the entrance to the Accademia Gallery, where the David is kept, and to the Medici Chapels where the evocative statues that represent the ineluctable passage of time are located.
