Guided tour of Montepulciano and Pienza
Montepulciano is an elegant city, whose medieval urban fabric was renovated in a monumental way in the sixteenth century; perched on a hill between the Val di Chiana and the Val d’Orcia, it offers breathtaking views. From the Porta delle Farine you can see Lake Trasimeno and, when the air is clear, even spot Isola Maggiore. The guided tour begins in the monumental center that is also the highest point of the city, Piazza Grande, where the most notable buildings overlook, including the Palazzo Comunale and the Duomo. From here the walk continues along the Corso, which runs lengthways throughout the city, from the highest to the lowest point. Together with our guide, deviating from the main artery, you will discover the hidden alleys and suggestive corners.
The guided tour continues in Pienza, the heart of the Val d’Orcia Park declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2004. In the small village, everything speaks of the one who wanted it as we can admire it, still today in eternal memory of him and of his family: Enea Silvio Piccolomini, ascended to the papal throne with the name of Pius II. With the collaboration of two great Florentine architects, Leon Battista Alberti and Bernardo Rossellino, he made it a real pearl of the Renaissance. The never intrusive monumentality of the architecture constantly dialogues with the poignant landscape that surrounds Pienza.
