Guided tour of San Gimignano to taste
With this guided tour we will allow you to discover how the history of San Gimignano and that of its most popular typical products, Vernaccia and saffron, go hand in hand. Since 1200, when the town reached the apex of its fortune and was enriched with towers, palaces and works of art, Vernaccia was produced, the doc white wine since 1993. The current disciplinary production of the wine, provides production area grapes exclusively from the municipal area of San Gimignano. Saffron was already cultivated in the Middle Ages, a source of great wealth for the merchants who traded it, and so precious that it was considered a bargaining chip. Today, the production of this spice used in the Middle Ages, particularly as a dye, is back in high demand and the local saffron obtained the DOP mark in 2005. While our guide will take you to get to know the beauties of the medieval town, you will taste Vernaccia and discover that it is not just to drink; and you will know in how many ways, even unexpected, saffron can be used.
